This is yet another contentious issue, but over the years, more and more onus has been placed on motorists and others have abdicated responsibility for their behaviour on our roads, which is a problem in society overall where people expect everyone else to take responsibility, but they do not need to take any themselves.

We plan to implement the following, over a staged program where necessary.

  1. Ban 20mph speed limits on any road except one which only has domestic homes on it.
  2. 30mph limit scrapped on roads that are mixed domestic and commercial, to be replaced with a new 25mph speed limit
  3. Bus lanes to be moved from the kerbside to the middle of the road – it is easier for traffic to flow around vehicles beside the kerb than buses, where there are bus stops we will place red hatch boxes which will be large enough for a bus to pull into and drivers must not enter unless they can clearly exit. Camera controlled with instant £500 fines for violations.
  4. National Speed limit signs to be replaced for actual speed limit signs. Lower Speed limits to be introduced for Rain and inclement weather on all roads, limited to be 15mph below dry weather conditions.
    1. Motorways
      1. Cars – 80mph – towing – 55mph – Restricted to lane 1 normally (Lane 2 for overtaking only)

To be monitored by cameras. Infractions will be warning, repeat offence a £300 fine. Fines to be paid to the school.
    5. All Roundabouts to have all traffic lights removed when the traffic light stops traffic on the roundabout. The traffic lights will hold at the entrance to the roundabout and let cars enter in 40 second intervals to allow the roundabout to be cleared after each Green signal. Roundabouts shall have RED hatches boxes over each entrance and exit – Drivers of vehicles stoppped in them will be fined £500 (wheels to be on or in the box) – exception if making way for an emergency vehicle.

Each stop/station shall be overlain with a mutlistorey car park. Parking will be free with a travel ticket. Where the town has an existing train station, these shall be combined.
    9. All types of traffic calming measures to be banned, they increase pollution by hindering the proper flow of traffic, this will include width restriction, chicanes and speed bumps.
    10. A complete review of roadworks planning and implementation. To often, roadworks hinder traffic flow without justifiable reasons. This will be outlawed. Proper planning to be undertaken and roads left clear outside of roadwork hours and weekends/holidays to minimise disruption unless there is no option for driver safety.
    11. Local authorities will be banned from working on major arterial routes, even where these pass through towns or cities. Work for these roads will be completed by the Highways Agency under a new mandate to ensure efficient and safe traffic flow on the main roads.
  5. Construction and Use Regulations – these will be updated to ensure that the following is added.
    1. All new vehicles, regardless of weight class, will be fitted with forward and rear looking camera systems that record all travel with GPS geotagging.
    2. All new vehicles will be fitted with a GPS geolocation device hardwired into the vehicle to prevent unlawful removal. This device shall also have a receiver included that would allow a code to be remotely sent to the ECU to shut it down in the event of theft.
