The British Democratic Alliance Charter

Preamble

For too long, the people of the British Isles have been failed by a political system driven by financial self-interest, vanity, and power rather than service, reason, and duty to country.

Successive governments and parties have placed themselves above the nation, exploiting public trust for personal and political gain.

The British Democratic Alliance has been created because the party system and the parties have failed. We stand apart from the political machines and their puerile machinations that have consumed public trust and replaced democracy with division.

We exist to return power and dignity to the people themselves where is should have always resided in the first place.

The British Democratic Alliance exists in direct rejection of that decay.
We are not a party, nor will we ever become one.
We are a national organisation founded to restore honesty, competence, and accountability to public life; to place the law and the people above government; and to return power to where it belongs  – with the people themselves.

This Charter is our public covenant.
It sets out who we are, how we operate, and the principles by which we shall always be judged.

The British Democratic Alliance Charter

A public declaration of purpose, principles, and conduct.

1. Who We Are

The British Democratic Alliance (BDA) exists to create real democracy and to restore honesty, reason, ethics and accountability to public life across the British Isles.
We will never be a party built on personality, profit, or power — we only ever be a movement built on principle, integrity, and public service.

2. Financials

  1. The BDA is a not-for-profit organisation, registered in England and Wales (16774652) as a company limited by guarantee, meaning it has no shareholders, no private gain, and no dividends.
  2. We will raise money purely by membership fees, donations, sponsorships by British citizens and registered entities only. You must be domiciled in the United Kingdom to be a member or to donate or sponsor us. We may also raise some money from merchandising to raise awareness.
  3. Every penny raised is used solely to advance our aims: democratic reform, civic education, and rebuilding trust between the people and those who govern.

3. Membership

  1. Membership is open to all British citizens above the age of 12 years who are resident in the geographic British Isles, not just the United Kingdom.
  2. Membership affords certain rights depending on the membership level, please see the membership chart.
  3. If you are a Non-Resident British Citizen who is likely to return to the British Isles, then you may join as a non-voting member and then upgrade your membership once you return to the British Isles permanently.
  4. If you work outside the UK but have a permanent home within the UK, then you may take up full membership.
  5. We do not offer corporate or union membership classes as this implies undue influence and we are about democracy, not bought influence

4. Our Purpose – why we exist

    1. Promote democratic renewal and constitutional reform across the United Kingdom and its constituent nations.
    2. Conduct and publish independent research into history, society, and governance.
    3. Produce books, papers, and educational materials to inform, inspire, and engage the public.
    4. Organise meetings, events, and campaigns that encourage accountability, transparency, and genuine public participation in decision-making.
    5. Support independent candidates who share our ethical standards and democratic values.

5. How We Operate

    1. The BDA shall be governed by a Board of Directors responsible for its strategic direction, integrity, and compliance.
    2. Directors and members cannot profit from their positions, only reasonable and documented expenses shall be reimbursed.
    3. Every year, the BDA will publicly publish its accounts and AGM minutes openly online for all to see.
    4. All members and officers are bound by a duty to act with honesty, fairness, and respect, always upholding the BDA’s founding values.
    5. If the BDA is ever dissolved, all assets will go to another organisation with similar aims, never into private hands.
    6. Political Independence
    7. The BDA does not demand political conformity – MPs must vote with their conscience and the will of their constituents.
    8. Membership is open to anyone who believes in truthful governance, lawful accountability, and the service of the people above all else.
    9. We are not a vehicle for career politicians.
    10. Members wishing to stand for public office are encouraged to do so as independent candidates and not member of political parties.
    11. Candidates may apply for BDA endorsement only after demonstrating competence, integrity, and alignment with our core principles.
    12. All applications and decisions will be transparent and recorded.
    13. No person may claim to represent the BDA without written authorisation from the Board.

6. Ethical Standards

Every member and officer of the BDA must:
    1. Uphold the rule of law and the principles of the British Isles Constitution.
    2. All officers and members must disclose any financial or personal interests that could influence their judgment or be considered a “conflict of interest”. The BDA will maintain a public register of declared interests for transparency.
    3. Conduct themselves in a way that brings honour, not harm, to the movement, the nation and our values.
    4. Treat all individuals with dignity, civility, and fairness.
    5. Reject and report all forms of corruption, discrimination, or abuse of authority.
    6. Any member of the party who is an elected official at any level, local, regional or national who is found to behave unethically, is corrupt or in any way that harms the trust between the public, and the government will be removed from office, ejected from the organisation and prosecuted where sufficient evidence exists.
    7. Any member of the party who is not an elected official who brings the organisation into disrepute will have their membership reviewed and may be ejected.

Members and officers who report wrongdoing in good faith shall be protected from retaliation. Integrity requires the courage to speak out.

8. Code of Conduct acknowledgment:

All members shall sign and uphold the BDA Code of Conduct, reaffirmed annually as a condition when they renew their membership.

9. Accountability and Transparency

We believe that trust is earned through openness.
Therefore, we pledge to:
  1. Publish all governing documents and financial statements on our website.
  2. Publish the minutes of minutes of all meetings on a dedicated website within 48 hours of the meeting taking place except where it may be covered by national security restrictions.
  3. Record and make available the outcomes of key votes and decisions.
  4. Allow members to hold the leadership accountable through fair, democratic mechanisms.
  5. Encourage the public to question, challenge, and contribute ideas to the development of all BDA policy.

10. Our Promise

The British Democratic Alliance will always act:
  • In the national interest, never for personal or political gain.
  • With respect for the people, not contempt for their intelligence.
  • With transparency, fairness, and courage, even when it is difficult.
  • We promise to put the law and the people above Government, the Government must be there to serve, not command.

We will never betray the trust of those who believe a better British Isles is always possible.

11. In Closing

  1. This Charter is both a declaration and a contract, between us and the people of the British Isles.
  2. It defines not only what we do, but how we do it, and why we exist.
  3. The British Democratic Alliance stands for democracy, truth, transparency and service.
  4. We will not waver from these principles, whatever storms lie ahead.
