Law & Order

A truly functional society is a truly free society, but for a society to truly function properly it requires a framework, a scaffold if you like, upon which those freedoms hang, within which society then operates. All members of society have a responsibility to uphold and maintain those laws, ideals and the very purposes of those laws if that society is to manitain its coherance, and within that there must be a strong Justice system system that is fair, robust, equal and maintains the very ideals of equality whilst the laws must protect the most vulnerable at the same time preventing the most powerful from exploiting their privililedged position of wealth or influence; this is not an easy balance for any society to maintain.

Law making has become inherently lazy in the UK, many laws are more than 50 years old, in fact, some are more than 100 years old, and bear no resemblance to life in modern Britain, with updated statutes simply refering back to older statutes, making cross referencing for lawyers a nightmare of a task.

The BDA will propose a root and branch overhaul of our entire Criminal Justice system, the Legal Aid Aid Agency, how Lawyers operate, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, how the Courts operate, how the Police are managed, how laws are managed, written and how many fail to protect the basic rights of citizens whilst other laws allow those with nefarious intent to exploit loopholes.

If you work in the Criminal Justice System and you would like to suggest ways it can be reformed for the better, please do get in touch at contribute@britishdemocracy.co.uk
